Laying Down the Latte, the 21st book in the Bakeshop Mystery Series, is finally here! This story is steeped in the vibrant flavors of Costa Rica—and I mean that literally. While researching for the book, the Tech Guy and I spent time on the ground in Costa Rica, trekking through lush coffee fields and savoring the country’s rich coffee culture. It was an unforgettable experience that I hope helped bring depth and authenticity to this book.

To celebrate its release, I’m sharing a simple, cozy recipe you can enjoy right from your kitchen: Andy’s Pura Vida Latte. Inspired by the warm hospitality and bold flavors we experienced in Costa Rica, this latte blends espresso with creamy coconut milk, sugarcane syrup, and warming spices. It’s easy to make and even easier to fall in love with.

A warm and spicy coconut milk latte with rich espresso, sugarcane syrup, cinnamon, and nutmeg—Andy’s Pura Vida Latte brings a taste of Costa Rica to your mug.

Ingredients

  • 2 shots 2 strong espresso

  • 1 cup 1 coconut milk

  • 1 tbsp 1 sugarcane syrup

  • ½ tsp ½ cinnamon

  • ½ tsp ½ nutmeg

  • 1 1 cinnamon stick (for garnish)

Directions

  • Add warm espresso to a mug.
  • Warm the coconut milk and sugarcane syrup in a saucepan.
  • Stir until fully combined, but not boiling.
  • Then slowly pour the mixture over the espresso.
  • Sprinkle cinnamon and nutmeg on top and garnish with a cinnamon stick.
