Isn’t it interesting how adding warming spices like cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg can totally change and (hopefully 🤞🏽) enhance a recipe? I took a basic chocolate crinkle, or as my grandmother called them—wagon wheels, and spiced them up. The spices mingle beautifully with the chocolate and give these classics a modern spin.
Ingredients
½ cup butter
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
1 tsp almond extract
½ tsp cinnamon
½ tsp cloves
½ tsp nutmeg
1 tsp salt
2 tsps baking powder
2 cups flour
1 cup cocoa powder
Powdered sugar—for dusting
Directions
Preheat oven to 350° F. Cream butter and sugar together in a mixer. Slowly beat in the eggs, almond extract, and spices. Mix well. Add in salt, baking powder, flour, and cocoa powder. The dough will be sticky. Cover with plastic wrap and chill for one hour.
Once the dough has chilled, form into 1-inch balls. Roll in powdered sugar and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake at 350° F for 10 minutes.
