I love experimenting in the kitchen. Sometimes those experiments are total flops and sometimes they lead to new creations like this chocolate orange hazelnut bark. I used a simple shortbread base and slathered it with Nutella, chocolate curls, and fresh orange zest. The best thing about this cookie bark, aside from its lovely flavor, is that you don’t need to be a cookie designer in order to make it look beautiful on any holiday platter. Break it into chunks and enjoy!
Ingredients
1 cup butter
½ cup sugar
2 ¼ cups flour
1 egg
1 tsp orange extract
½ tsp salt
Zest of small orange
1 cup chocolate hazelnut spread
Chocolate ribbons
Directions
Preheat oven to 350° F. Cream butter and sugar together in a mixer. Add orange extract, salt, and egg and mix well. Slowly incorporate the flour. Form dough into a ball, cover, and chill for 30 minutes. Roll out dough to ¼” thickness in rough rectangle shape. Place dough on a parchment-lined cookie sheet and bake at 350° for 10-12 minutes or until dough is lightly brown. Allow to cool for 10 minutes. Spread an even layer of chocolate hazelnut spread over the surface and sprinkle with chocolate ribbons and orange zest. Cut into rough pieces of cookie bark.
