This recipe is near and dear to my heart. When I was growing up, my mom would bake stollen for neighbor gifts and our Christmas breakfast. I took her original recipe and made a few tweaks, opting for a slightly softer dough and a layer of melted chocolate. If you’ve never made a stollen, this is the recipe for you!

2 packages 2 yeast
½ cup ½ warm water
1 tsp 1 sugar
1 cup 1 milk
½ cup ½ butter
½ cup ½ sugar
1 tsp 1 salt
4-4 ½ cups 4-4 ½ flour
2 tsp 2 cardamom
1 tbsp 1 lemon juice and zest
1 tbsp 1 orange juice and zest
1 tbsp 1 white rum
1 tbsp 1 brandy
1 tbsp 1 butter
1 tbsp 1 brown sugar
1 cup 1 walnuts (finely chopped)
1 tsp 1 cardamom
1 tsp 1 cinnamon
½ tsp ½ ginger
½ tsp ½ nutmeg
4 oz 4 semi-sweet baking chocolate, melted
1 cup 1 powdered sugar
1 1 juice and zest of small orange
